Chinatown 808 presents the 2025 Honolulu Mid-Autumn Festival!  Celebrate this traditional Chinese holiday that marks the end of a great autumn harvest and a reunion time for families.  Come out with your friends and family for a weekend of fun with food, crafts, keiki activities, live entertainment, and more!

For the 17 years and under division, we ask parents to not contribute excessively to maintain fairness. 

*One entry per person allowed.
  • Junior Division - 17 Years and Under
  • Open Division - 18 Years and Over
  • Minimum height and width is 8 Inches.
  • Can't be pre-bought [no lantern kits].
  • No open flames or flammable liquid.
  • Must be able to carry it in our parade.
  • No use of glass or sharp material/objects.
  • Creativity & Originality 40%
  • Use of Recyclable Materials 30%
  • Craftsmanship & Presentation 30%
  • 1st Place - $100
  • 2nd Place - $75

Harvest Moon Altar

Offerings to the moon will will be setup on the 2nd floor of the Chinatown Cultural Plaza on the Mauka end.

This is a picture of last year's altar with the moon just above the condominium. These offerings include joss paper, liquor, tea, mooncakes, star fruit, pomelos, water caltrop , baby taro, Chinese taro,  and peanuts.
  • Star Fruit  - Symbol of completeness and happiness
  • Pomelos - Resembles the moon and return of loved ones/family members
  • water caltrop - Eaten during Mid-Autumn for LUCK
  • Baby taro and Chinese taro - For good luck & prosperity and food in the moonlight to feed soldiers
  • Peanuts - Prosperity
Other families have sugar cane, pears, duck, crab, osmanthus cakes and wine.

FAQs

The staging will be on near Hawaii National Bank at the corner of King and Smith St. It will head mauka on Maunakea St. to Beretania and end at Sun Yat Sen Mall. The best place to watch the parade would likely be along Maunakea St. between King and Beretania St.
The parade will begin and 6:30 pm. Marching units are to report the Hawaii National Bank by 5:45 pm for staging
Lantern will be judged at about 4 pm. You can submit your entry online here. Winners will be announce at about 4:45 pm. You may drop off your lantern inside the mini-mall area.
Stargazing will be on the 2nd floor near the dragon boat display.
